header("HTTP/1.0 402");
Works just fine for me.
From Apache: [10/Apr/2003:00:45:47 -0700] 66.45.102.144 "GET / HTTP/1.0"
402 0 "-" "Mozilla/4.75 [en] (X11; U; Linux 2.2.16-3 i686)"
header() must be called before sending any other data to the client.

Subject: [PHP] using header()
hi..
does anybody know how to force apache to give a 401 unauthorized error
when using www-authenticate when using header()?
been trying to figure out how to send headers with header() and for some
reason it doesnt seem to be working very well.... maybe im writing the
headers all wrong or something.. i have something like: header("http/1.0
401 unauthorized");
but it just gets ignored for some reason
