GD always worked with jpegs.. just not gifs ;)

about wasting all yer time on it, :) but I guess I was so frazzled I missed
that bit about compiling it with JPEG, which, as told, was pretty clear in
the image section of the PHP manuals. (I did a test at like 5 in the
morning... Ah well, no more of that.)
