Variable passed not working

I have a link set to <a href=\"$PHP_SELF?jobID=$id\">click here</a> $id is set to $jobID's position in the array. When I click on the link I get the exact same page. Using isset($jobID) I know that the variable is not defined. Although when I hover over the link I can see that jobID=0 or jobID=5 (depending what it's position is). I have also set $jobID as a global variable... Any ideas how I can get $jobID get its value from this link? /T
