extracting data out of a usenet posting

Hi there, I am currently trying to do something a lot of people have most likeley done before. I am trying to read out of a usenet newsgroup and save it to a database. In the first step I am facing a lot of trouble extracting the data I want, since different user agents seem to save the message in a different way. Thats why my string search functions often fail. As I have seen that some php software has already done this trick (like some forums or newsreaders), I am sure it can be done. Could anybody give me a good hint on that, or has already some code ready? I guess it does not make sense to reinvent the wheel, right??
