That's a MySQL error. MySQL usernames / passwords are not the same as system user/pass. Did you set MySQL up with a root password? If not, you can connect like this... $conn_id = mysql_connect ( "localhost", "root" ); If you did set up a root password for MySQL (remember, not the system root password), then connect like this. $conn_id = mysql_connect ( "localhost", "root", "<!-- mysql pass -->" ); Further, if you do not have a root MySQL password, I suggest you set one up ASAP, and reload MySQL.
