With this line in a .htaccess file: ErrorDocument 404 filename you can catch all bad url's and forward them to filename. When filename is a complete path (http://www.domain.org/path/file.php) it does not include all the POST- GET- and other pagerelated variables, but when it is forwarded with a local path (/path/file.php) all these variables are kept. What I use to do is make nonexisitng URls like this; http://www.domain.org/news/112 http://www.domain.org/person/Johnson http://www.domain.org/cat/bikes/accessoires/chinese_bell then in the file.php that i forward all these pages to i split up the url and depending on the value i do an action, this can include building new urls with all sorts of GET info. POST should also be possible as long as you know how to name the form fields.
