failed converting

Hi i am building this small xml/php application
I generate xml from user input.
So i expect specialcharaters to be included. (éàçï...)
I am able to convert them with mb_convert_encoding
But my problem occures when i dump the result of my new xml file via
$doc->dump_mem($xml_file)
I get errors like this

Where line 47 is my dump_file
I really got no clue what is wrong
Specially when this error is encounter it empties my file !!
Any instruction would really help me.
