Globals defined in functions

I've done a parse_ini_file() like this: $_CUSTOMIZE = parse_ini_file("...");
so that I can refer to things like $_CUSTOMIZE["databasename"] and such. Anyway, when I
have to globalize these in functions, like
function TableExists($tablename) {
global $_CUSTOMIZE["databasename"];
.
.
.
}
anyway, the global line causes a parse error. Does anyone have an option for me?
