Vignette mod_curl

Hi, I've been dumped with a Vignette based web server running apache..... It seems that Vignette is based around an apache mmodule called mod_curl and I have 3 questions for the list.... 1. Has anyone tried to load mod_php at the same time as the mod_curl.... 2. Does anyone agree with their justification that since their .so module for mod_curl is compiled with SunPRO C Apache MUST also be compiled with this compiler. 3. Is anyone interested or has anyone had any experience with trying to duplicate the functionality of this module in PHP since it seems really to be just a fancy error handler which talks to a backend daemon if the file doesnt exist in the docroot....
