Yup, I do it all the time. But there a few things you must do.
1. Your username for the MySQL has to be allowable for any domain and not
just localhost.
2. When doing the connection do mysql_connect("<server ip or
dns>","username","password); I think I normally get it to work using the IP.
The most important thing is that your username is set to allow connections
from any host.
