I've checked the manual and the archives, but no answers. This is a re-post
with more info ...
The problem:
I've upgraded to PHP4 and now my PHP3 scripts don't work. It is not an
extensions problem. The problem affects *all* my scripts. The scripts are
happy to output HTML, but as soon as they find round brackets in php code
(even simple stuff such as include(whatever); or even phpinfo(); , they
break and tell me that there is a parse error on whatever is the first line
with a round bracket. For example:
The script:
<?php
phpinfo();
?>
The error message:
phpinfo.php: parse error, expecting ''('' on line 2
The browser source code for above message:
<b><i>phpinfo.php: </i> parse error, expecting ''('' on line
2</b><br>
<tt>phpinf<b><blink>o();</blink></b><tt><br>
Note the really weird point (in all scripts) that PHP4 doesn't like the last
letter of whatever the function is, in addition to the round brackets
immediately following: ie, it appears to be saying that the problem in the
above example is the final 'o();' part of ' phpinfo(); '.
My system:
PHP 4.0.2, Red Hat 6.2 and whatever versions of Apache and Netscape that
shipped with RH6.2 (sorry, they're over on my Linux partition and I'm
currently in Windows).
Any ideas greatly appreciated, otherwise its back to PHP3 for me ...
