Navid, et al -- ..and then Navid Y. said... % % No need to reply if you do not want to answer this question guys. Especially Well, that's a difference of opinion. There are lots of valid questions that I don't want to answer, and I don't reply to those, but there is also a bunch of junk that creeps in here and there, and I, for one, very much want to keep it out. I get just over 1k messages per day with the highest concentrations of them in the php, perl, and mutt lists and I really wish I could give more attention to just those groups but they're swamped as it is. If we allow off-topic posts in this mailing list (like any other that's supposed to be tightly focused), the signal-to-noise ratio will go down and I'll have to spend more time wading through junk to get to good stuff. Mohit wasn't made an example of, flamed to a crisp, or hung out to dry; he[*] was simply told, with explanation, why he should ask that question on another list (and, note, it is both for his benefit as well as "ours" here on the list!). And now you're getting the same treatment :-) % if you want to be rude at the person. Also remember that Apache and PHP Of course, rudeness is in the eye of the beholder, so it's tough to determine what is and what isn't. I don't think any of the responses that came through the list were rude. Ryan's was just humorous :-) % compliment each other very well, so Apache deserves a little respect too. If Oh, I very much respect Apache. I respect Perl, too, and I've heard some interesting things about Python, and I really love motorcycles and water skiing. Does this in any way mean that we should open up this already-busy list to other topics? Gee, I would just *love* to wade through posts solely concerning ASP and/or javascript since I don't use those at all; I guess I must have been pretty naive to expect php-related conversation on a php list, eh? As I said in my first reply, if his Apache post had *anything* to do with PHP then we'd be much more interested in it, but as it is he should just go and ask on an Apache list and get his purely-Apache-and-not-at-all-PHP problems sorted out. % anyone feels like they would like to answer this Apache question then you % can do so without submitting it to the entire list. On *that* point we very much agree! Since I'm in lecture mode, I might as well go ahead and ask that you not top-post a reply and leave the entire previous text hanging on underneath since it's a terrible waste of bandwidth, time, and efficiency.
