Hi all ...
I am the author of SmartPost ( http://chandu.org/smartpost/ )
a small suite of PHP scripts for managing an Xmail based Mail server
Plus an Email interface for users to read/compose their mails.
I'm now working on 0.2 where I want to take advantage of as many
capabilities/features/modules of PHP but without loosing performance.
Assuming that the application what I'm writing is intended for large number
of email users simultaneously, is it recommended to implement
content compression in PHP ( which will add additional CPU load ).
Does that substantiate the performance gain in data transfer.
Else , how about implementing the samething out side PHP
( may be something like mod_gzip in apache)
Which one is recommended, if at al I want to use one ?
