header error or not?

I try to write scripts like this:
header("Content-Type: application/unknown");
header("Content-Disposition: filename=$file_name");
for the file download tracking.but the problem is when the header is sent.
There is nothing happen.(Only show blank screen instead ask user to save
file as...). What's problem and how should i do?
