Don't be quick to count out Windows....
If your printers are set up properly, you can simply use command line
redirection to print your document from PHP by simply executing :
copy file.doc > lpt1
Which will send the file to default printer (which is on lpt1)

Great solution Burhan...could this be done in the event of a network
printer where Windows is involved?
