Odd... works ok here. Hmm... does it always halt on the same iteration? If you have it pause inside the loop, does it halt on a smaller number? What if you remove the string constant from the print line? Only go to 500 instead of 1000? I'm just thinking out loud, but maybe you're running into the maximum execution time for your script? Odd that it wouldn't report an error in that case... try turning the error reporting up to waaaaay paranoid (error_reporting (E_ALL);) and see what it offers you.
