Last I heard, your options were:
Mac Hardware and QT Streaming Software for buttloads of money
Linux and "Darwin" (an OpenSource port of QT streaming to Linux)
QTSS is free and open source (APSL) and runs on Darwin, Mac OS X and Mac OS X Server (Mac OS X is not out yet, but Server is) and also has been ported to run on Linux, NT, Windows, classic Mac OS... The hardware may cost money, but it's really good and fast hardware and the streaming server, unlike MS and Real's models, are free.
"Darwin" is not a port of QT. It is an entire BSD-based open source operating system kernel (BSD + Apple enhancements, HFS+ and Appletalk stuff among other things.. One of the guys who wrote the Mach kernel is VP of Technology at Apple now.)
