Hello all,
First, sorry for the long message but I wanted to provide as much detail as
possible.
I have been developing an application on windows 98 + PHP Triad (PHP 4.0,
MySQL 3.23.10a, Apache 1.3.12 (Win 32). The application is working great on
my local computer, but then I loaded to my web host which is running Linux
(latest Red Hat), PHP 4.0, MySQL 3.23.18a, Apache 1.3.12.
Moving on to the problem:
THE WAY IT WORKS ON MY DEV. COMPUTER
My application sets a session variable after login and authorization and
then directs the user to the template page. The main include file (with my
functions) is then called and all of the frames are loaded. Because I have
called the main include file at the beginning of this page, I don't have to
call it again. In fact I would get an error if I tried to call it in any of
the frames because it says I am calling a function twice. Additionally, my
variables that were passed to the template page from the login script are
used in some of the frames on the template page. For example, in the main
content area, I run a checkSession() function that clears out old functions
and refreshes the currently active function. It also gets the user
information from the session id and personalizes this "default content"
page.
THE WAY IT WORKS ON MY HOST
The authorization script runs and assigns a session id. The template page
loads everything except the main content page which returns an errors
stating that the functions aren't declared. This implied that the main
include file wasn't loaded into the frame. To debug, I included the file in
the main content frame. I did not receive an error message.
The next problem in the main content page was with the checkSession()
function which did not run, because the session id is not being passed into
this frame either. Trying to debug, I hard coded a good session variable
into the frame. Now some of my functions work but some don't. For example,
in my checkSession() function, the sub function that clears old sessions
after 10 minutes fails yet the last action for the sessionid is updated.
To summarize, does anyone know why on my win98, PHP Triad environment the
variables and functions are sent inside frames but in the Linux environment
none of this is happening correctly? Has anyone had this problem and is
their a fix. My next step is to begin a reasonably large re-write of my
app.
Thx,
Paul
