Help please

Hi, this may be more of an access question, but I am trying to update a date field with a php script and anything I try does not work. UPDATE reminders SET event='test', time=#01-01-1999 01:31:00 PM# WHERE recordnum = 3 AND userid = 4 Allways returns an error, I removed the time part and just updated event and it works fine. I have tried setting time several different ways, like just 01:31:00 or 01:31 AM or 1:31 AM, I tried moving the date after time, I tried removing the date part or changing the date format, nothing. I just can't see why it won't accept the time value. the time field is of type Date/Time in the table design, arggggggg. Thanks for any help.
