Hi,
I thought using gzip-encoding for browsers that accept it would be a
great way to speed up download time and reduce bandwidth. But then I
got reports from people getting blank pages. After looking into it it
seems they all use proxies. So now I am banging my head against the
wall b/c it seems that some proxies can't handle this.
I tried it with Apache as a proxy. After alot of testing I have
concluded that Apache thinks that the NULL characters included in the
gzip file is an end-of-transmission; it won't pass anything past the
first NULL character along. As if it doesn't understand the
"Content-Encoding" string.
Given that there is no way to tell if someone is using a proxy, has
anyone found a way around this in PHP?
