the stduser needs only select permissions in the mysql database.
log into mysql as a superuser and do
GRANT SELECT ON *.* TO phpmyadminuser@localhost IDENTIFIED BY 'password';
and then set config.inc.php3 too
$cfgServers[1]['host'] = 'localhost';
$cfgServers[1]['adv_auth'] = true;
$cfgServers[1]['stduser'] = 'phpmyadminuser';
$cfgServers[1]['stdpass'] = 'pass';
In fact, unless your using a different port. these are the only vairables
that need to be set.
