Heath,
Do you want the ding to sound on the Server or the client?
Surely if the server you could probably exec("c:\path\to\waveplayerthing.exe
ding.wav"); or something...
If this is the case you should probably look at logging info instead of
expecting an operator to be in the room...
Just thinking about it it would be pretty cool for a e-consumer site to ding
every time some one spent more than $100 ... that way you could audibly
assess your success...

Is the following scenario practical WITHOUT using a
.mid, .wav, .mp3 file from the server? In other
words, loading a player on the client side is not an
option.
<?php
## Sound an alert in MS Windows to alert whoever is
## in the room or at the console
## To be called from an autorefresh page in an
## unfocused browser window
if ($some_flag) make_his_computer_ding();
?>
The 'DING!' is an audible alert/flag to be called if
the results of a db query match a specific set of
conditions.
Specifically, I guess what needs to happen is to use
Win native sound API or whatever to invoke a simple
1/2 second 'DING' (no loading of a server side sound
file or client side player).
Many thanks
