hello all,
I really like PHP the language. so much so that i would like to convert
some of my C/C++ daemons and very long running processes (not really
daemons in that they don't sit on a socket, but they monitor files and
should never die except when the system is shutting down) to PHP.
has anyone done this and had any problems? i'm aware that the memory cost
will certainly be higher. i can deal with that. i'm aware that the CPU
cost will also be higher. I don't mind that since these will be IO bound,
not CPU bound.
mainly i'm concerned about issues of stability. are there any gotchas?
might there be problems with garbage collection (does memory use increase
indefinitely? or are unreferenced variables garbage collected well enough
that i don't need to worry about this)? naturally i'll need to set
max_execution_time... that's not a big deal.
