We got involved with a client last year who was implementing a
crystal reports project for internet users - it was far more headache
that it was valuable, and they ended up scrapping it. Not saying it
can't be done, just make sure it's definitely worth it before you
invest too much time.
re: exporting to excel, we are doing this for a client right now (same
client)
it took all of about 5 minutes to put together a script to
1. Read info from a database
2. Output a header - header("Content-type: application/vnd.ms-excel");
3. Print out tab-delimited information.
The browser generally launches Excel and you're off.
If you're looking to create fancy Excel files with graphs, relations,
formulas, etc., this is obviously not the way to do it, but if you just
need to output existing rows and columns, this should work fine.
