apache chroot + mail()

Hi, I am having a problem using the mail() command inside a chrooted apache/php installation on linux with qmail. Nothing apears in the logs, nothing in apache error logs , neither in php error logs.. And.. no mail gets send.. Nothing to see in my mailer daemon logs neither..
