Why throw it into a DB... just throw it on the file system, but out of the
webroot (so people cant upload stuff to share with everyone)
also;
1. Make sure you have some sort of upload size limit in place
2. I would set aside a directory and before you write the upload file check
the size of that directory if over some sort of limit dont write any new
files

Subject: Converting WordDocs to HTML on the Fly
Greetings All:
I'm writing a document conversion routine that converts Word Documents in
Linux. The utility is called wvhtml. It's based on WordView.
I won't allow the web-user to write to my file-systems and the wvhtml
utility requires the file to reside on the machine in order to parse
it. My best effort is to pitch the file into a database (MySQL) and run a
cron to save that record as a unique file in a secure place that the
web-user can access. The cron job will convert the file, insert it into
the database, and, delete the file.
On the front end, the end-user will receive 5 second updates of status of
the conversion process.
Anyone know a better way to do this? I have the source code for wvhtml,
and, could probably compile it into the Apache, which might make more
sense.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Regards,
Van
