Try this function to get the last id that was inserted on a table:
function get_last_id($table)
{
$SQL = "SELECT LAST_INSERT_ID() from $table";
$result = mysql_query( $SQL);
$Err = mysql_error();
$numrows = mysql_num_rows($result);
$row = mysql_fetch_array($result);
$id = $row[0];
//echo ("Table $table last id was $id.");
return $id;
}

Update: when I pass the result returned by the mysql() function
call, mysql_insert_id() returns '0' (zero). But when I do not pass
any arguments to the mysql_insert_id() function, it returns the
correct value.
Why? Shouldn't it work properly either way?
