date() doesn't format according to locale but strftime() does: setlocale(LC_ALL, 'pt_BR.ISO8859-1'); echo strftime('%A, %B %e %Y'); // output 'Quinta Feira, Fevereiro 12 2004' -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE-----
