Do you need something like this?

$text = "one two label four otherstuff";
$replacement = "guess";
eregi("^.*label[[:space:]](.*)[[:space:]].*$",$text,$arr);
echo $arr[1]."<br>";
$newtext = eregi_replace($arr[1],$replacement,$text);
echo $newtext."<br>";
