What I'm trying to do is check form input for non-alphanumeric characters
such as % * $ < > ! and all the rest that could possibly be used to issue
commands (so-called 'dangerous characters' or whatever). If any of these
characters are found anywhere in a variable, then the input will be rejected
and an error message returned.
