Imagerotate via GD2 (bundled)

I'm using the imagerotate function with a PNG that has transparency, to
overlay another image via imagecopy.
The problem is the transparent area is showing as black.
If I don't use imagerotate and just stick with the imagecopy, the area is
transparent.
How do I keep transparency after imagerotate is applied?
