You could try preg_grep()
<?php
$dfile=file($cfg);
$testingstring = "#this,line,is,for,ian";
$testing=preg_grep('/'.$testingstring.'\s*/', $dfile);
print_r ($testing);
?>
That should take care of any end of line stuff
