Getting PDFlib to work with the RPM version of php4.0.1

I am attempting to get pdflib to work with PHP 4.0.1 in the rpm version. I have all my other needed functions working right except for this option. Is there a way to do this using RPM files or making a configuration file change. I would prefer to not have to recompile my PHP and apache just to add in this capability. I have already downloaded the pdflib compiled and tested the library and it works fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
