arg...zend tutorial problem

i'm using http://www.zend.com/zend/tut/photogallery.php to make a simple foto gallery....i hit this problem.... Parse error: parse error, expecting `')'' in /www/usaexpress/test/upload/picupload.php on line 35 and line 35 is:

34        srand(microtime());
35        $id = sprintf("%c%d",ord(?A?)+rand(0,26),time());
36        $dirname = "$filepath/$id";
37        mkdir($dirname,0700);
