The info was taken from the 'sites' page on the php.net site. I think it's getting a bit out of date. re: php v other tech, this is a huge topic, obviously. Are there many sites that actually *discuss* (rationally?) the benefits of each platform? I've not come across too many - I think most people who are capable of rational discussions of platform benefits are too busy working to engage in such discussions. :) As for us, we use *mostly* PHP, as in general it's more flexible than ASP (tho we haven't tested the new ASP+ much) and it's a bit quicker to develop in than Perl or Java (personal experience here - one of the other guys here is a bit better in Java, and for very complex things, CPAN does come in handy for Perl projects). Coupla 'neato' things we've been employing in PHP that just wouldn't be this easy (or probably possible at all!) in ASP/VBScript... if $db->Record is an array... extract($db->Record,attribue,"info_"); If my database row has columns "name","email","phone", I'll now have variables named $name,$email,$phone. (or something close to this - dont' quote me - my code isn't handy!) Also, we've played with some templating systems, and now are simply 'including' another PHP page which acts as a template. main.php <? do stuff $var = "whatever"; etc. more stuff. etc... include("maintemplate.php"); ?> maintemplate.php <html> Your value is <?=$var;?> </html> Rough idea - this makes the separation of content from code much easier, and is pretty darn fast. Wouldn't be possible in ASP - ASP+ maybe, but I don't think so. In general, I haven't seen much in the way of templating systems at all for the ASP platform, and as projects get bigger, it's definitely a nice thing to be using. We've got some designers that can put together a page, and HTML around our stuff, without causing problems. When the PHP was interspersed with the HTML, they had more problems. Is this meaty enough? Probably not, but there are more reasons, I'm sure, why people think PHP is technically superior in many respects to alternatives.
