One way to do it (untested): $EmailAddress = preg_match('/<([^>]+)>/', $TestAddress, $MatchList) ? $MatchList[1] : $TestAddress ; $TestAddress would be the 'Joe Doe <joe.doe@somedomain.com>' or 'jamie.doe@somedomain.com' string, and $EmailAddress *should* be just the email address proper.
