Before running configure, put the following in your environment :
INFORMIXDIR=/path/to/informix
INFORMIXSERVER=ol_name_of_server
PATH=${PATH}:${INFORMIXDIR}/bin
This will enable "configure" to find the Informix ESQL/C preprocessor.
