We've found the soltion to the bulk of our linking problems while
compiling PHP4/MySQL under Solaris 8. The linker was not being able to
resolve symbols for the mysql_* functions in PHP.
Seems the makefiles generated by the configure script for Apache left
out a -lmysqlclient . (Of course, it also duplicates a few of the other
flags....) After we added "-lmysqlclient" to the LIBS1 variable in
several makefiles, Apache compiled relatively smoothly with PHP/MySQL as
a static module.
Hope this helps some of you out there who have been having similar
problems (or at least provides insight to some other linking problems).
Stephen.
