Need email recomendations

I am writing a mailing list with PHP and sql, its the standard type mailing list, but in order to
verify the email add is vallid, I want to send out a welcome message and have them reply to it, then
insert that info, plus the info from the TEMP table into a PERM table.... I know I can use IMAP to
recieve the emails, But with the resources I have, I cant tell if there is a way to isolate the
senders email address.
My question is, is this the right direction? If so, how do I isolate the senders email address for
the table?
