quick globalisation?

Is there a quicker way to globalise something other than:
$a = 'foo';
$b = 'bah';
...
$GLOBALS['a'] = $a;
$GLOBALS['b'] = $b;
??
I was hoping for something like
$a = 'foo';
$b = 'bah';
...
makeGlobal('a','b') /*or*/ makeGlobal($a,$b);
