I'm running Apache 1.3.12 with PHP-4.0.0 compiled in as a static module. My
database is Sybase and my operating system is Solaris. My question involves
Apache/PHP's memory use...which looks very substantial on my system, I'm
wondering if someone can help me out here. First, my development machine:
Memory: 256M real, 4264K free, 119M swap in use, 180M swap free
PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE TIME CPU COMMAND
24055 nobody 1 59 0 135M 2096K sleep 0:05 0.00% httpd
24056 nobody 1 59 0 135M 2096K sleep 0:03 0.00% httpd
24064 nobody 1 59 0 136M 2080K sleep 0:03 0.00% httpd
24063 nobody 1 59 0 135M 2072K sleep 0:03 0.00% httpd
24054 nobody 1 59 0 135M 2096K sleep 0:02 0.00% httpd
24057 nobody 1 59 0 136M 2080K sleep 0:02 0.00% httpd
24053 nobody 1 59 0 135M 2024K sleep 0:02 0.00% httpd
This is with no activity, of course. The resident size looks fairly normal, but
the process size seems overly large (135M). Is this just me or is this too
large? When I run AOLserver, it doesn't seem to be this large. So, let's look
at my production machine, which is running the same configuration, but does have
active users:
Memory: 512M real, 63M free, 495M swap in use, 45M swap free
PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE TIME CPU COMMAND
7959 sybase 1 28 0 105M 100M cpu2 673:43 5.61% dataserver
7968 sybase 1 31 0 105M 100M sleep 594:38 4.62% dataserver
23050 nobody 1 52 0 149M 19M sleep 9:19 0.51% httpd
23051 nobody 1 24 0 149M 18M sleep 8:37 0.47% httpd
17496 brian 1 58 0 2072K 1352K cpu0 0:00 0.42% top
23049 nobody 1 58 0 149M 18M sleep 9:47 0.24% httpd
23070 nobody 1 48 0 149M 19M sleep 9:23 0.24% httpd
23066 nobody 1 52 0 136M 5988K sleep 8:05 0.24% httpd
16020 nobody 1 18 0 135M 5564K sleep 0:27 0.22% httpd
23067 nobody 1 52 0 149M 18M sleep 9:04 0.19% httpd
23068 nobody 1 58 0 149M 18M sleep 8:22 0.16% httpd
23053 nobody 1 58 0 149M 19M sleep 8:55 0.16% httpd
260 root 11 58 0 3372K 1628K sleep 50:34 0.13% mibiisa
17434 nobody 1 28 0 134M 4012K sleep 0:00 0.10% httpd
The process size is equally large, but the resident amount is higher as well.
There are active queries, but none of them are 20 MB.
Any ideas?
