MAIL() Problems

I have tried to simply send a mail to my email address with this code... it is written just as it is
in the PHP manual.

if (!mail("dallask@firstworld.net", "subject", "body"))
echo "unable to send the mail";
else
echo "mail sent";
?>
this code seems to hang, I will be using this mail function to send out to a mailing list, I just
wanted to test it first. Is there somthing Im missing?
Im on a windows 2k system
