Any such benchmarks are always highly suspect based on how good the tester
is at their OS.
Based on the numbers I've seen over the years, I'd say it goes like this:
Baseline: Static Pages
Tier-0: C
Tier-1: PHP4, modPerl, Python
Tier-2: PHP3, Perl CGI, JSP?
Tier-3: ASP, CF?, JSP?
Note that any of them are fast enough to flood the network at trivial
(benchmark) tasks, so you're really hard-pressed to say what's fastest.
A big part of any decision should be which language is easiest/fastest to
develop in, and which has the most maintainable code, and which is the
most portable to new technologies/platforms, and which can you find people
who want to do that work... (Anybody want to try hiring people to code
web-pages in COBOL? I doubt it.)
I think PHP is the winner all-around on these criteria.
Obviously I'm biased, so this should be taken with a grain of salt. :-)
