Ade,
Here's some sql help for the query:
"SELECT * FROM yourTableName ORDER BY yourSurnameField ASC LIMIT 20"
For the second part of your question you need to use sql offsets combined with limits. I don't
know of a quick fix for understanding this concept, although http://www.wdvl.com has some good tutorials for sql in general - of
which I liked Selena Sol's best.

Subject: Displaying in Alphabetical Order
Hi,
I have a MySQL database which holds users registered info, one of the fields
is their surname, does anyone know the PHP code that would let me display all
the users 20 per page in alphabetical order according to their surname with
the little numbers for moving between pages faster?
Thank you in advance
Ade
select * from yourTableName ORDER BY surname ASC LIMIT 20
