Anything scrolling or flashing is bad. Kill the scrolling crap.
Disabling right click makes you look like a third-rate warez site. No
successful site does this. Anyway, your code is MShItE-specific, and I
use Mozilla. Similarly, you should do the rollover tooltips as DOM (open
standard, supported by IE 5 and Mozilla) rather than (or as well as)
proprietary MS code.
The buttons are illegible. The font is difficult to read, and the
buttons are too cramped. Same for the whole page: needs more whitespace.
The directory section is doomed. You won't get any sites. Use the Open
Directory content instead (http://dmoz.org). Until then remove it from
the page: it will look less cluttered.
Kill the top frame. We do not need a definition of 'hoboe' - this just
wastes valuable space. Instead, have a bigger heading with some space
around it. But remove the 'portable portal' text.
The links below the search engine are too small and illegible - why them
and the buttons?
The whole site looks like a jumble of referral payment attempts - needs
more organisation.
[Note I might have got a (slightly) wrong picture of the site - any
adverts on the site will have been filtered by my personal proxy
server.]
Basically don't spend too much on editorial, or you'll lose your money -
just try to reap the referral and ad payments on as little investment as
possible; you should accept that you won't get a large number of
hits, so just make sure you don't lose too much on those you do.
PS. I like your business model - make money off other sites, but just
don't dilute it too much with your own work.
