Peter, Look in php.ini for these settings: [Session] session.gc_probability = 20 ; percentual probability that the ; 'garbage collection' process is started ; on every session initialization session.gc_maxlifetime = 600 ; after this number of seconds, stored ; data will be seen as 'garbage' and ; cleaned up by the gc process The values are those I have in place which _I believe_ basically means after 10 minutes of inactivity a session has a 20% chance of being removed by the 'garbage collection' process. It works for me and keeps the number of cache files down. You can also programmatically remove sessions by using the session_destroy() function. --Clive ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Van Dijck" <peter@vardus.com> To: <php-general@lists.php.net> Sent: Monday, October 16, 2000 12:37 PM Subject: [PHP] live site down because session files are not deleted by php4 HELP > Hi, > We have a site that goes down because of the php 4 sessions: > PHP saves session files on the server in the same directory as mySQL and > therefore there is not enough swap space in that directory for mySQL to > work so it goes down, BECAUSE The session files from php don't get deleted?? > > Question: How can we make PHP delete old sessions?
