using sprinf()

Hi,
in session.c , i try to use
char *val;
sprintf(val, "%s", PS(id));
PS(mod)->s_write(&PS(mod_data), PS(id), val, strlen(val), TSRMLS_CC);
but i cant move between scripts that has session_start() on them.
any ideas?
