Not sure if this will help or not, but Dan Steinman (the DHTML guru) has a PHP-based stock ticker up at http://www.dansteinman.com/php/pstocks/ . It pulls from Yahoo!, so it will be about 20 minutes behind. If nothing else, this might give you someplace to start.
