Many thanks! This seems to work:
$url = 'http://' . $HTTP_SERVER_VARS[SERVER_NAME] .
$HTTP_SERVER_VARS[URL];
Except I need to remove the file name from the end of the string.
Mastering the pattern matching in Perl/PHP is quite a challenge for me.
