Login to the web server. 2. 'cd' to the directory containing the compressed file. 3a. gunzip NAMEOFCOMPRESSEDFILE.gz ----- OR ------ 3b. unsip NAMEOFCOMPRESSEDFILE.zip 4. If there is a '.tar' file now, do: tar -xvf NAMEOFCOMPRESSEDFILE.tar If it's not a .gz or a .zip file, then how you uncompress it, or if you *can* uncompress it depends on what the compression is, and what software is or isn't on your webserver.
